What will a car from Europe really cost in Algeria?
Enter the price of the car abroad. EXDZ adds shipping, customs duty, VAT and the other import taxes, then converts everything at today’s Square rate, because the taxes must be paid with your own foreign currency.
How the estimate is calculated
The calculator follows the customs rules for cars under three years old imported by resident individuals.
1. Customs value
The price of the car plus shipping and insurance, converted at the Bank of Algeria official rate. Customs taxes the price you actually paid, shown by the invoice. It only uses its Argus reference values as a last resort, if it rejects the declared price as too low.
2. Duty, VAT and abatement
Petrol and hybrid cars up to 1,800 cm³ pay 15% duty. Larger petrol engines pay 30% duty plus 60% TIC, and electric cars pay 30% duty. All pay 19% VAT, 3% TCS and 2% PRCT. The under-3-years regime then cuts the total by 80% for electric cars, 50% up to 1,800 cm³ and 20% above.
3. Paid with your own currency
The taxes must be paid from your own foreign currency. Most buyers get those euros on the Square, so the real cost of the taxes in dinars is much higher than the official figure.
For a petrol or hybrid car up to 1,800 cm³, all taxes come to about 21% of the customs value after the 50% abatement. Above 1,800 cm³ the 60% TIC pushes it to about 122%, and an electric car pays about 12%.
The law asks importers to pay the car and the taxes with their own foreign currency. Most people buy those euros on the parallel market, so the Square rate is what the car really costs in dinars.
Used diesel cars are excluded from the under-3-years regime for individuals. Check the current rule with customs before buying.
One car every three years, for personal use. Since January 2025 the car also cannot be resold for 36 months unless you repay the tax advantage: all of it in the first year, 66% in the second and 33% in the third.
Port release costs 5,000 DA and storage is billed from the first day at 3,000 DA a day (official port tariff). Add the customs agent, the 8,000 DA inspection tax for imported cars (finance law 2026), the carte grise stamp of 3,000 to 8,000 DA, and the vignette, which hybrids and electric cars no longer pay.
